Ikumi's teacher tells him a story about a student who became a ninja. He's partially responsible for sending her down that path, so she's returned to exact her revenge.

I don't like how contradictory that expression is. Granted it's an idiom, so exaggerations are to be expected, but the fact remains that it's false most of the time--for the same reason, I won't say "always." She also feels like the kind of character who'd use the more colloquial version.
