If my mother had been alone for that many years, and my best friend was to do something like this, I would obviously freak out a bit at first. But I would hope that I would be able to get over it and realize that the two of them are happy together, and I would trust my friend to treat my mother right. But I would never, ever be able to call my friend "Dad". :)
In hentai, cool. IRL, not cool. as a friend there are somet hings you don't do, and one of em is have sex with close relatives, even more so your mother. If my mom suddenly told me she had a boyfriend and the guy was my age, there's no way in hell I will peacefully accept something like that, even more so if it's my best friend. I believe I did say in my earlier post that I would be shocked and or freak out, and that it would take some time for me to get over it. However, my freaking out would *not* result in me trying to beat the crap out of someone. I might scream and yell, tell them to get out of my sight, but I wouldn't start throwing punches or do anything else that could land my ass in jail. The comments by nonyabsns and Wall made it seem like they thought that criminal assault and battery would be a perfectly reasonable response to such a situation. That is where my "Internet Tough Guy" comment came from. Sorry for the confusion.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a though guy in any sense of the word. I haven't gotten in a fight since I was sixteen and I'm generally very openminded about things. But there are just a few things I cant accept, my best friend screwing my mom is one of those. And I'm not talking about beating the guy senseless, I would only hit him in the face once or twice, at best I'd break his nose. for anyone interested, the other thing is physically en mentally hurting any of my sisters or my mother. The last time I got in a fight was when I found out my sisters boyfriend beat on her. the guy was four years older so I got pummeled :), but as I said, there are things I can't accept.
In the case of a woman you know being mentally/physically abused, yes, I can totally see getting violent about it. Someone who has committed a crime against a woman has no sympathy from me whatsoever. And I guess I can see popping your friend one in the nose for screwing your mom, especially if you caught them in the act.
I guess it is just that my best friend and I have been friends since we were around 6 or 7 years old. I would trust him with my life. If something like this were to happen, I wouldn't be happy with it, and I might not be comfortable seeing the two of them together, but I would trust him to treat her right. I will always be his friend, no matter what, until the day I die.
